PANAILO LiFePO4 Energy Storage Battery Testing

Inverter Connection, BMS Communication & System Parameter Verification

Introduction

Reliable energy storage begins with more than battery capacity. The battery, its battery management system (BMS), and the inverter must be correctly connected and configured to work together. In this PANAILO demonstration, our technical team walks through battery-to-inverter wiring, communication interface connection, and a series of checks using the inverter's display and settings menus.

What the Video Demonstrates

Preparing the battery and inverter

The demonstration begins with a PANAILO battery and a compatible inverter positioned for connection. The technician identifies the connection points and prepares the components for the integration check.

01

Checking DC power connections

The video shows the battery power leads and inverter-side DC terminals. Correct polarity, properly secured connections, and suitable protective devices are critical when integrating a battery with an inverter. Connection work should always follow the applicable product manuals and be performed by qualified personnel.

02

Connecting the BMS communication interface

A data cable is connected at the inverter communication interface. Depending on the equipment and its supported configuration, battery-inverter communication may use CAN or RS485. The interface, pinout, cable and protocol must match both manufacturers' specifications; a connector that physically fits does not alone ensure compatibility.

03

Reviewing inverter settings and status

The technician navigates the inverter touchscreen, opens settings pages, and reviews system information. These menus are commonly used to select an appropriate battery type or communication configuration and to inspect battery-related operating data.

04

Verifying the communication setup

The final on-screen checks illustrate how technicians review the configuration and available status information. The video documents the check process, rather than a quantified performance or long-duration endurance test.

Why BMS Communication Matters

A lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery is normally supervised by a BMS. Its role is to monitor important battery conditions and support protective actions within the system's design. When a compatible inverter and BMS exchange data correctly, the inverter may be able to use information such as state of charge (SOC), battery voltage, current, temperature, alarms, and permitted charge or discharge limits, depending on the protocol and equipment capabilities.

This coordinated control can help the system respond to changing battery conditions rather than relying only on preset voltage thresholds. Communication compatibility is therefore an important part of commissioning, especially when different brands or models are integrated.

Key Checks Before Commissioning

01/

Electrical compatibility: confirm battery nominal voltage and operating range match the inverter's battery-input specifications.

02/

Communication compatibility: confirm supported interface type, pin assignment, communication protocol and any required battery profile.

03/

Configuration: check the selected operating mode and charging/discharging limits against the battery manufacturer's guidance.

04/

Status and alarms: review displayed battery data, communication indicators, and any active warnings before progressing to operational tests.

05/

Safety: use appropriate isolation, cable sizing, overcurrent protection, grounding arrangements and qualified installation procedures.

From Integration Checks to a Reliable Energy Storage System

These preliminary checks are one part of a wider quality and commissioning process. Depending on the application, further verification may include controlled charging and discharging, protection response checks, load testing, and monitoring under defined operating conditions. Such additional tests are not represented as completed results in this video.

For residential backup power, commercial energy storage, and solar-plus-storage projects, careful component matching helps reduce integration issues and supports more predictable system operation. PANAILO provides LiFePO4 battery solutions and works with customers on practical configurations for their energy storage requirements.
